Word Wide Web is created in Switzerland.

December 25, 1990

Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau create the first hyperlinked web page (Info.cern.ch.) and first web server in Geneva. This enables the exchange of hypertext on the Internet, which had been created in the 1960s. Berners-Lee founds the World Wide Web Consortium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to promote free public use of the web in 1994.
